About the Ohio College Access Portal Project

Mission

The Ohio College Access Portal is a one-stop shop website where students, parents and adult learners can access the information they need to prepare for and attend college in Ohio, continue their education or find educational programs and information to assist with career goals.

Background

The need to access information, from pre-school through high school, to help plan to go to college is essential. Over the last several years, the Ohio Board of Regents convened a number of advisory committees that recognized the need for easier, and more unified, access to information about going to college in Ohio. These advisory committees identified a web site portal as the best way to meet this need. The effort has culminated in the Ohio College Access Portal, or OhioCAP, and it has since become a central part of the Regents' student access and success strategies.

The OhioCAP portal was created to provide the state's students, parents and adult workforce with easy access — a one-stop shop — to information they need to prepare for and attend college in Ohio. Developed by a collaboration of partners, including the Ohio Board of Regents, Ohio Department of Education, Ohio College Access Network and GEAR UP, OhioCAP complements Regents' goals to eliminate major college access barriers. It also supports multiple state partners' efforts to graduate students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in college, to help parents and families develop high expectations for their children, and to learn how to begin planning for their children to attend college.
